The Coconut Traders Company has always prided itself on being advocates for the environment and the world that surrounds us.

We owe that to not only ourselves, but for future generations of mankind and the animal world as well. Since our founding in 2000, we have donated time and funding to a variety of charities and organizations that work for the betterment of both our natural diversity, and the preservation of our vital resources. It is when we come together for a common purpose, we really do realize that we're all connected; when one is injured, we're all injured; when we lose one, we've all lost something. We are fond of our connection to the sea and the sealife within. Sea turtles hold a special place in the heart and minds of many cultures around the globe. The same holds true right here in Southeastern North Carolina and our sea turtles need our help today!!

The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Topsail Beach, North Carolina is the preeminent sea turtle rehabilitation center for the central coast of the United States. Each year, Jean Beasley and her dedicated staff of volunteers and interns perform the seemingly impossible tasks of rescuing and rehabilitating injured and threatened sea turtles found off the coast of North & South Carolina, as well as, from other areas of the Atlantic coast. Countless successful rescues and rehabilitations have resulted in many of these animals being returned to their beloved ocean. The winter of 2008-2009 was especially a tough time for both the turtles and the center. Many patients were admitted this year and although many were returned to ocean in early June,2009, many patients remain and need our help. The mission is daunting and grows more dire each passing year. As our planet continues to change along with the environments where these magnificent animals live, the human stresses continue to take their toll. Countless injuries from boat propeller strikes, trash ingestion, and other parasitic diseases caused by pollution are contributing to a an ever-growing crisis. These animals have changed very little since prehistoric times, but extinction is a real possibility. Newly born sea turtle hatchlings have a survival rate of only 1 in 10,000! It's up to us to help ensure their survival for years to come. The aid that is provided by the KBSTRRC is badly needed.

As a means to help continue the work that Jean Beasley and her staff perform everyday of the year, Coconut Traders & Blue Moon Gift Shops are hosting a benefit for the Turtle Hospital on June 20,2009 at BLUE MOON GIFT SHOPS on Racine Drive in Wilmington. The hours are from 12:00 noon and go until 3:00pm.
